As of the end of June 2022, the size of the area served by the heating service has reached approximately 40,000 KE and 25,932 subscribers. With this size, it is one of Turkey&#8217;s largest and one of the world&#8217;s few large-scale regional heating systems.<\/p><p>The history of geothermal activities in the Bal\u00e7ova-Narl\u0131dere field and \u0130zmir Geothermal Inc. occurred as follows:<\/p><p>Historical Development:<\/p><ul><li><p>1963: The first geothermal drilling in Bal\u00e7ova was opened by MTA.<\/p><\/li><li><p>1983: Bal\u00e7ova Thermal Facilities were heated with a well-interior exchanger system.<\/p><\/li><li><p>1996: The \u0130zmir Bal\u00e7ova Central Heating System was put into operation (similar to Build-Operate-Transfer model).<\/p><\/li><li><p>2000: Bal\u00e7ova Geothermal Ltd. was established.<\/p><\/li><li><p>2005: \u0130zmir Geothermal Energy Ind. and Trade Co.
